There are 3 counselors assigned to a group of 24 campers at this rate how many counselors are needs for 40 campers ?

Use a proportion.

3 counselors to 24 campers equals x counselors to 40 campers.

3/24 = x/40

1/8 = x/40

x = 1/8 * 40

x = 5
